1/8MS Medium is an extremely low-concentration derivative of MS medium. Its core feature is reducing the concentration of macronutrients and micronutrients in MS medium to 1/8 of the original formula (the iron source is usually kept at full MS level to support chlorophyll synthesis), while pre-mixing sucrose as a carbon source and osmotic regulator, creating a culture system characterized by "ultra-low nutrient supply and mild ionic stress" (no agar added, allowing for either liquid culture or solid medium with added gelling agent as needed). This medium is primarily used for cultivating plant materials that are highly sensitive to high ion concentrations and for nutrient regulation during specific developmental stages, showing unique advantages in certain crop tissue cultures.
