WPM Medium is a specialized culture medium specifically designed for woody plant tissue culture. Its core characteristics include low concentrations of inorganic salts and minimal ammonium nitrogen content, using calcium nitrate as the main nitrogen source while optimizing the calcium-to-magnesium ratio. Sucrose is added as a carbon source and osmotic regulator to establish a gentle culture system (no agar added, making it flexible for liquid culture or later solidification with an added gelling agent). This medium is widely used for root induction, stem proliferation, and ex situ preservation of woody ornamental plants and fruit trees such as blueberries, roses, and peach trees. It helps reduce ion-induced damage to the sensitive roots of woody plants, enhancing rooting rates and improving seedlings' stress resistance after transplantation.
