DKW Medium is a specialized medium designed for the in vitro culture of woody plants. Its core features are a high concentration of calcium nitrate, a balanced phosphorus-potassium ratio, and abundant organic nutrients (such as inositol and B vitamins). Sucrose is added as a carbon source and an osmotic regulator, creating a culture system tailored to the growth requirements of woody plants (agar is not included, allowing for either liquid culture or solid media by adding a gelling agent as needed). This medium is widely used for shoot proliferation, root induction, and in vitro preservation of woody fruit trees such as walnut, chestnut, and cherry, as well as hardwood ornamental plants like rose and azalea. It meets the high-calcium needs of hardwood plants, enhances root development and stem lignification, and helps improve the rooting rate and stress resistance of difficult-to-root woody plant seedlings.
