Evans Blue Staining Solution (0.5%)

Evans Blue, also known as T-1824, is a non-membrane-permeable azo dye that has a high affinity for plasma proteins and is highly flammable. Its molecular formula is C34H24N6Na4O14S4, with a molecular weight of 960.80 and CAS number 314-13-6. When the cell membrane is damaged, the dye can enter the cytoplasm and the nucleus, turning them blue, which allows it to be used to assess cell viability. Evans Blue can also be used to study the permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), as it binds to albumin and thus indicates the barrier's ability to transport proteins into the brain. Both Evans Blue and Trypan Blue are cell viability dyes often used for staining tissue sections, determining BBB integrity, distinguishing live cells, and measuring blood volume. Live cells are not stained blue, while dead cells are stained light blue; live cells cannot be stained with Evans Blue due to their efflux function. This method allows dead and live cells to be distinguished under a microscope, but it cannot differentiate between apoptotic and necrotic cells. BIOISCO Evans Blue Staining Solution (0.5%) is convenient to use and can be directly added to samples for staining.
