Silwet L-77 is a silicone surfactant based on alkoxyl-modified polysiloxane, serving as an efficient surfactant. It can greatly reduce the surface tension of water (water has a surface tension of 72.4 mN/m, while 0.1% Silwet L-77 reduces it to about 21 mN/m, compared to the minimum surface tension of about 30 mN/m for conventional surfactant solutions). Silwet L-77 can easily wet almost all types of leaf surfaces, significantly improving the coverage of spray solutions on target organisms, with strong penetration ability and resistance to water washing. It can substantially enhance the effective utilization of spray solutions, increasing efficacy by 30-50%, with low toxicity and environmental safety.Silwet L-77 surfactant can be used in formulations of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, plant growth regulators, foliar fertilizers, and biological agents. Silwet L-77 is a commonly used surfactant for transgenic applications in crops such as Arabidopsis and rapeseed. Its transformation efficiency is more than 40 times that of NP40.
