MC Medium

Used for the determination of the total count of thermophilic streptococci in food. Soybean peptone, beef extract powder, and yeast extract powder provide nitrogen sources, vitamins, and growth factors; glucose and lactose provide carbon sources as fermentable sugars; lactic acid bacteria ferment sugars to produce acid, causing the surrounding calcium carbonate to dissolve, which helps to identify lactic acid bacteria; agar is the solidifying agent of the culture medium; neutral red is a pH indicator.
