Salmonella Chromogenic Medium

Salmonella chromogenic agar is a modified agar developed by Point Biochemicals, used for the rapid detection of Salmonella in food, water, milk, ice cream, and meat products. Except for Salmonella Typhi (which appears colorless on the agar), other Salmonella species appear bright red, Escherichia coli and coliform bacteria appear blue, Citrobacter species appear purple, and other bacteria appear yellow or colorless. In food contamination, the main Salmonella species are those other than Salmonella Typhi. This agar has a very high specificity, up to 98%, making it an ideal rapid detection agar.
