LiAc can make yeast cells competent, allowing them to take up exogenous DNA. PEG is a high molecular polymer that can effectively protect the cell membrane structure from damage caused by high concentrations of LiAc during yeast transformation; at the same time, PEG can help plasmids adhere more closely to the yeast cell wall, thereby promoting yeast transformation.
