Chloramphenicol
Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum bacterial antibiotic that can inhibit the translation of mRNA on the 50S ribosome during the process of peptide bond formation catalyzed by peptidyl transferase, thereby inhibiting the growth of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It is also the first-choice drug for treating typhoid and paratyphoid fever, and one of the specific drugs for treating anaerobic bacterial infections. It exhibits resistance in microorganisms of the Rickettsia genus as well as Chlamydia psittaci-labeled lymphogranuloma, making it useful for bacterial screening.
