Gentamicin sulfate salt
Gentamicin sulfate salt
Gentamicin sulfate is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic that has good antibacterial activity against most Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Gentamicin can bind to the 30S ribosomal subunit, causing codon misreading and blocking the transfer of peptidyl-tRNA from the acceptor site to the donor site. Gentamicin can also bind to the outer membrane portion of Pseudomonas cell membranes, displacing naturally occurring cations, destabilizing the membrane, and forming pores on the cell surface, thereby exerting a bactericidal effect. Gentamicin sulfate consists of a combination of various gentamicin components. The main components are the gentamicin C complex: gentamicin C1, gentamicin C1a, and gentamicin C2, which account for about 80% and exhibit the highest antibacterial activity. Gentamicin A, B, X, and some other components make up the remaining 20% of the antibiotic, and their antibacterial activity is significantly lower than that of the gentamicin C complex.
