Pikovskaya's Medium

Pikovskaya's medium is a specialized medium for screening phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms. It uses insoluble inorganic phosphate as the sole phosphorus source and contains a carbon source, nitrogen source, and inorganic salts. It can be prepared in solid or liquid form. Only phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms can grow by metabolizing and solubilizing the phosphate source. On solid medium, they form clear zones, while in liquid medium, the soluble phosphate content can be measured. It is used for screening phosphate-solubilizing strains and evaluating their capabilities, and must be handled using sterile techniques.
