L-Serine

Serine is a conditionally essential amino acid for the human body — under normal physiological conditions, it can be synthesized in the body from intermediates of glucose metabolism (such as 3-phosphoglycerate) to meet basic needs. However, during infancy and early childhood development, intense exercise, or disease states (such as liver and kidney dysfunction), the body’s own synthesis is insufficient, and it must be obtained through diet or supplements. The core feature of its molecular structure is the side chain containing a hydroxyl group (-OH). This polar group gives it the unique property of "high chemical reactivity and participation in various modifications," making it not only a key raw material for protein synthesis but also playing an indispensable role in phospholipid synthesis, neurotransmitter production, and post-translational modification of proteins.
