NZM Medium

NZM growth medium is an enriched medium used for the amplification and maintenance of lambda and filamentous bacteriophages, as well as for the cultivation of recombinant Escherichia coli. This medium is designed for the amplification of bacterial phages. NZM medium provides all the amino acids, vitamins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and other metabolic substrates required for cell growth, eliminating the need for self-synthesis. As a result, host cells grow rapidly on this medium. Casein hydrolysate amino acids are highly hydrolyzed products, rich in free amino acids, serving as sources of nitrogen and carbon. Sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance, while magnesium sulfate provides magnesium ions, which are essential divalent metal ions for many important enzymatic reactions within the cell.
