CLED medium, that is, cysteine-lactose-electrolyte deficiency medium, is the first choice for bacteriological examination of urine. It is characterized by no electrolyte, which can effectively inhibit the migration and growth of Proteus commonly found in common agar and ensure the separation and purification of colonies. Lactose and cysteine as key components, and with bromothymol blue indicator. Lactose-fermenting bacteria (such as Escherichia coli) produce acid and form yellow colonies; Non-fermenting bacteria (such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa) are blue. The medium can support the good growth of most urinary tract pathogens, and at the same time, the lactose fermentation ability can be clearly identified by colony color.
