Phenylalanine deaminase medium
Phenylalanine deaminase medium is a kind of identification medium, which is mainly used for the identification of Enterobacteriaceae bacteria. Its key component is DL- phenylalanine. If the bacteria to be tested can produce phenylalanine deaminase, phenylalanine can be deaminated to produce phenylpyruvate. After adding 10% ferric chloride reagent, phenylpyruvic acid chelated with it, and the unique dark green spread appeared on the surface of the culture medium immediately. This test is an important basis for distinguishing Proteus, Providence and Morganella (all positive) from other Enterobacteriaceae bacteria. This culture medium is one of the classic methods for biochemical identification of microorganisms.
