Krebs disaccharide iron agar
Kirschner's disaccharide iron agar (KIA) is a kind of identification medium, which is used to preliminarily identify Enterobacteriaceae bacteria. The top layer is inoculated by puncture, and the inclined surface is inoculated by line. The culture medium contains glucose, lactose, phenol red indicator and ferrous sulfate. By observing the color change of the inclined plane and the bottom layer (turning yellow when producing acid/turning red when producing alkali) and whether the upper layer produces gas or hydrogen sulfide (turning black), the fermentation type, gas-producing ability and hydrogen sulfide production of bacteria can be judged at one time, which is a classic test for identification of intestinal bacteria.
