Andrade's broth
Andrade's broth is a commonly used identification medium for carbohydrate fermentation experiments, which is mainly used to observe the utilization ability of bacteria to specific sugars. Its basic component is peptone water, and a sugar (such as glucose and lactose) and Andrade indicator are added. The main component of the indicator is acid fuchsia, which is colorless in alkaline or neutral environment. When bacteria ferment sugar to produce acid, the pH value of the culture medium decreases, which will cause the indicator to turn into striking magenta. If gas is produced, bubbles can be observed in Duchenne tubules. Therefore, the fermentation characteristics of bacteria can be judged by observing the color change and gas production.
