Tergitol-7 agar
Tergitol-7 agar is a selective identification medium, which is mainly used to detect coliforms and Escherichia coli in water and food. Its selectivity comes from surfactant Tergitol-7 and dye bromothymol blue, which can effectively inhibit the growth of gram-positive bacteria. Lactose is the only carbon source in the culture medium. The coliforms that ferment lactose to produce acid show yellow halo around the colonies due to the decrease of pH; Typical Escherichia coli can decompose X-Gluc in the culture medium and form blue central colony because it produces β -glucuronidase at the same time, thus realizing rapid identification.
