A-1 medium

A-1 culture medium is a selective enrichment liquid culture medium, which is specially used for rapid detection of fecal coliforms in food and environmental samples. Its selectivity is based on higher culture temperature (44.5 0.2℃) and antibacterial components, which can effectively inhibit the growth of non-target bacteria. The medium contains lactose and bromocresol purple indicators. If the sample contains fecal coliforms, they ferment lactose to produce acid and gas at this high temperature, which leads to the color of the culture medium changing from purple to yellow, and bubbles can be observed in Du's tubule, thus realizing rapid presumption detection within 24 hours.
