Pancreatic soybean magnesium sulfate agar (TSAM)
Pancreatic soybean magnesium sulfate agar (TSAM)
Pancreatic soybean magnesium sulfate agar (TSAM) is a selective isolation medium, which is specially used for the isolation and culture of Legionella pneumophila in the environment. Its basic ingredient is nutrient-rich pancreatized soybean agar, which provides basic nutrition for bacterial growth. The key selective component is the added antibiotics (such as vancomycin and polymyxin B), which can effectively inhibit the growth of most miscellaneous bacteria in the sample. Supplemented L- cysteine and ferric pyrophosphate are essential factors for the growth of Legionella. This culture medium is usually used in combination with acid pretreatment of samples, which is one of the standard methods for detecting Legionella in water.
