LES-Endo agar

LES-Endo agar is a selective identification medium, which is specially used for rapid detection of coliforms in drinking water and food. Lactose, bile salts and surfactants in its components can inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria and selectively promote the proliferation of coliforms. The key identification substance is magenta sulfite. When the coliform bacteria ferment lactose to produce acid, the colony will present a unique metallic luster (usually deep red with golden light), which is easy to read. This culture medium has high selectivity and identification specificity, and it is one of the classic standard methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis in environmental monitoring and quality control.
