MSB broth

MSB broth, the improved selenite cystine broth, is an efficient liquid medium for selective enrichment of Salmonella. Cystine and sodium thiosulfate are added on the basis of the traditional selenite formula, which significantly enhances the recovery ability of damaged salmonella and the inhibition effect on miscellaneous bacteria such as Escherichia coli. Selenite acts as a selective inhibitor, while mannitol provides a carbon source for Salmonella. After culture, the growth of Salmonella usually makes the culture medium turbid. This culture medium is especially suitable for detecting samples containing more miscellaneous bacteria, such as food and feed, which can effectively improve the detection rate of Salmonella, and is a key step in microbial inspection.
