Toluidine blue-dnase agar
Toluidine blue-dnase agar is a special identification medium for detecting bacterial dnase activity. Its key components are deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and indicator toluidine blue. When bacteria with dnase activity (such as Staphylococcus aureus, Serratia, etc.) grow on this plate, they will secrete dnase and hydrolyze long-chain DNA in the culture medium into oligonucleotide fragments. This hydrolysis reaction leads to a pink transparent ring around the colony. However, bacteria that do not produce enzymes do not have this phenomenon. This culture medium is mainly used for rapid identification of the above-mentioned enzyme-producing strains, which is an important and intuitive identification test in clinical microbiology examination.
