Nitrite cystine enrichment solution (SC) is a liquid culture medium for selective enrichment of Salmonella, especially suitable for detecting low or damaged Salmonella in food or other samples. Its selectivity mainly depends on nitrite, which can effectively inhibit the reproduction of non-target bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Proteus. At the same time, cystine and sodium thiosulfate added to the culture medium can provide necessary growth factors for Salmonella, neutralize the toxicity of nitrite and promote the repair and proliferation of damaged bacteria. Salmonella usually makes the liquid turbid after growing in this medium. After a certain period of culture, the detection rate of Salmonella can be significantly improved by inoculating the enrichment liquid on selective plates for separation.
