Tetrathionate Brilliant Green Enrichment Liquid Foundation (TTB) is a highly selective liquid medium, which is specially used for enrichment culture of Salmonella (especially serotypes other than Salmonella typhi). Its selectivity is based on two key inhibitors: tetrathionate can be reduced by sodium thiosulfate to produce sulfide that can inhibit gram-positive bacteria and some coliforms; Brilliant green can further inhibit other gram-negative bacteria. This dual inhibition mechanism creates a favorable growth environment for Salmonella. Bile salt and calcium carbonate in the basic components are used to promote the growth of target bacteria and stabilize pH respectively. It is often necessary to add iodine solution to oxidize sodium thiosulfate to generate tetrathiosulfonate. This culture medium is widely used for the detection of Salmonella in complex samples such as food and feed, which is a key step to improve the detection rate.
