Fundamentals of dynamic-indole-urea medium
Fundamentals of dynamic-indole-urea medium
Kinetic-Indole-Urea (MIU) medium is a compound biochemical identification medium, which can simultaneously observe the dynamics of bacteria, urease and indole production. Its basic components include peptone, glucose, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and other nutrients, and a small amount of agar (about 0.4%) is added to make a semi-solid state, as well as urea and phenol red indicators. After puncture inoculation, if bacteria are motivated, they will spread and grow along the puncture line to make the culture medium turbid; If urea can be decomposed to produce alkali, the whole culture medium will turn red; After culture, Kovack's reagent is added dropwise, and the red ring on the liquid surface is indole positive. The culture medium integrates three key biochemical reactions, and is especially suitable for rapid identification of Enterobacteriaceae bacteria, such as Proteus mirabilis, which is characterized by kinetic positive, urease positive and indole negative.
