Selenite enrichment solution (SF)
Selenite enrichment solution (SF)
Selenite F Broth is a liquid culture medium for selective enrichment of Salmonella, especially for the detection of feces, food and other samples. Its selectivity comes from sodium selenite, the main antibacterial component, which can interfere with the protein metabolism of Gram-positive bacteria, Escherichia coli and other common intestinal bacteria, thus inhibiting their growth, and has relatively little toxicity to Salmonella. Peptone and lactose in the culture medium provide nutrition for the recovery and proliferation of Salmonella. The culture medium needs to be cultured at 35-37℃ for 12-24 hours after inoculation, during which sodium selenite is metabolized and reduced by bacteria to produce more toxic red selenium, so the culture time should not be too long, otherwise the target bacteria will be inhibited. After this enrichment, the detection rate of Salmonella on subsequent separation plates can be significantly improved.
