MKTTn broth

MKTTn broth is a liquid culture medium for selective enrichment of Salmonella, and its name comes from its key components (tetrasulfate, brilliant green) and additives (neomycin). The basic nutrition is provided by peptone, beef extract powder and bile salt, while high concentration of sodium tetrasulfate and trace brilliant green can effectively inhibit the growth of non-target bacteria such as coliform bacteria and create a favorable breeding environment for Salmonella. Calcium carbonate in the culture medium can neutralize acidic substances produced by bacterial metabolism and maintain stability. Specially added neomycin (N, for novobiocin) can further enhance the inhibitory effect on Proteus and other miscellaneous bacteria, and improve the selectivity. After inoculation, the samples were cultured at 42±0.5℃ for 18-24 hours. This temperature cooperated with chemical inhibitors to significantly improve the sensitivity of detecting Salmonella from complex samples such as food and feed, which is one of the international standard methods.
