Improved MSRV medium
The improved MSRV medium is a semi-solid selective medium for rapid detection of Salmonella, which is improved based on the principle of Rappaport-Vassiliadis enrichment. Its high selectivity depends on low pH value and high concentration of magnesium chloride and malachite green, which can strongly inhibit the growth of miscellaneous bacteria and allow Salmonella to multiply. The culture medium is unique in its semi-solid form (agar content is about 0.4%). After inoculated in the center of the plate, the dynamic Salmonella will spread outward from the inoculation point, forming a unique white halo or cloud-like migration growth area, which can directly interpret the results within 24-48 hours and realize rapid estimation. This method has high sensitivity and is widely used in the preliminary screening of Salmonella in food and environmental samples, which greatly shortens the detection period.
