MIO medium
MIO medium is a semi-solid medium, which is used to detect three biochemical characteristics of microorganisms, namely, Motility, Indole and Ornithine decarboxylase. Its basic components include peptone (providing tryptophan and ornithine), a small amount of agar to form semi-solid state and bromocresol purple indicator. After the puncture inoculation culture, if the bacteria are motivated, they will spread and grow along the puncture line to make the culture medium turbid; If ornithine can be decomposed and decarboxylated to produce alkali, the culture medium will change from yellow to purple; After culture, Kovack's reagent is added dropwise, and the red ring on the liquid surface is indole positive. The culture medium integrates three key identification tests, and is especially suitable for rapid identification of Enterobacteriaceae (such as distinguishing Klebsiella from Enterobacteriaceae), with simple and efficient operation.
