M-Broth

M-broth is a liquid non-selective pre-enrichment medium for detecting and reviving damaged (sublethal damage) Salmonella in food and environment. Its basic ingredients, such as tryptone and yeast extract, provide rich nutrients, but do not contain selective inhibitors (such as bile salts, dyes or antibiotics). This mild environment allows Salmonella cells damaged by stress during processing, drying, freezing or disinfection to repair their cell membrane and enzyme system and restore their proliferation ability. Samples are usually cultured in M- broth at 35-37℃ for 18-24 hours. After the recovery process is completed, the enrichment solution is transferred to RVS and other selective enrichment solutions for subsequent culture. This pre-enrichment step significantly improves the detection rate of stressed Salmonella, which is the key link to detect processed food samples.
