GOD (EC-1.1.3.4) is widely present in animals and plants. It catalyzes the oxidation of glucose to form gluconic acid and produces H₂O₂, which is one of the metabolic pathways for generating reactive oxygen species in organisms. GOD catalyzes the production of H₂O₂, and peroxidase catalyzes H₂O₂ to oxidize 4-aminoantipyrine-coupled phenol, generating a colored compound that has a characteristic absorption peak at 500 nm. The depth of the color has a linear relationship with the activity of GOD.
