MLCB agar
MLCB agar is a selective chromogenic medium for the separation and identification of Salmonella. Its name comes from its main components: Glycerol, Bile salts and Brilliant green. The culture medium inhibits the growth of non-target bacteria such as gram-positive bacteria and most coliforms by deoxycholate and brilliant green, and has strong selectivity. Salmonella uses glycerol in the culture medium to produce alkali, and at the same time decomposes sulfur-containing amino acids to produce hydrogen sulfide, which reacts with ammonium ferric citrate to form colonies with black centers, and the colonies are surrounded by brown halo due to alkaline environment. This unique color reaction makes Salmonella easy to identify, significantly improves the detection efficiency and accuracy, and is widely used in the rapid screening of Salmonella in food and environmental samples.
