Glucose agar

Glucose agar is a basic general culture medium, which is used to cultivate and count fungi. Its main components are simple, including glucose as carbon source and energy source, peptone as nitrogen source, vitamins and growth factors, and agar as coagulant. Low pH environment (usually adjusted by adding antibiotics such as chloramphenicol or streptomycin) can effectively inhibit the growth of bacteria, but has little effect on the growth of most fungi. The culture medium is relatively simple in nutrition, can support the growth of various molds and yeasts, has obvious colony morphological characteristics, and is convenient for preliminary observation and separation. Therefore, it is widely used in the qualitative and quantitative detection of fungi in drugs, food and environmental samples and the preservation of strains, and it is one of the most commonly used fungal media in microbiology laboratories.
