Enterotoxin production medium
Enterotoxin-producing medium is a special liquid medium for inducing and enriching specific pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus to produce enterotoxin. Its composition is optimized, usually containing abundant peptone (such as casein trypsin digest), yeast extract and high concentration of inorganic salts (such as disodium hydrogen phosphate, magnesium salt, etc.), aiming at providing the best nutrition and osmotic pressure conditions, and stimulating bacteria to synthesize and secrete enterotoxin to the maximum extent. The medium does not contain carbohydrates to prevent the accumulation of acid products from affecting bacterial growth and toxin production. The culture needs to be cultured at a specific temperature (usually 35-37℃) for 18-72 hours with strong ventilation (such as shaking culture). The harvested culture supernatant can be used for subsequent enterotoxin detection (such as ELISA and immunodiffusion test), which is a key pretreatment step to evaluate the toxin-producing potential of Staphylococcus aureus in food safety.
