Tryptone bile salt agar
Tryptone bile salt agar is a non-selective or weakly selective solid medium for coliform detection, and is often used as the confirmation medium for MPN method. Its basic components are tryptone and bile salts. Tryptone provides rich nitrogen sources, amino acids and growth factors to support the recovery of damaged bacteria; Bile salt (usually low in content, about 0.5%) provides slight selectivity and inhibits the growth of some non-intestinal bacteria. Suspicious colonies were inoculated into this culture medium and cultured at 35-37¡æ for 24 hours. If gas is produced, it is proved that the strain has the ability to ferment lactose to produce acid and gas in the presence of bile salts, which can be confirmed as coliform positive. This culture medium is a key step to verify coliform bacteria in water quality and food microbial inspection.
