My wife's culture medium foundation
My wife's culture medium foundation
My wife's culture medium is a special differential culture medium for detecting hemolytic toxins of pathogenic Vibrio (especially Vibrio parahaemolyticus). Its basic components include peptone, sodium chloride, agar, etc. The key additive is fresh or defibrinated sheep or rabbit red blood cells. When preparing, the strains to be tested are crossed and inoculated on the flat plate, which can produce a unique "Kanagawa phenomenon": a completely transparent β -hemolytic ring appears around the colony. This is because the pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain can produce a heat-resistant direct hemolytic toxin. This culture medium can effectively distinguish pathogenic strains from non-pathogenic strains through this intuitive hemolysis phenomenon, which is an important basis for identifying the pathogenicity of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in food safety and clinical diagnosis.
