Alkaline peptone water
Alkaline peptone water is a classical weakly selective enrichment medium, which is mainly used for the proliferation and culture of alkalophilic vibrios such as Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Its basic components are peptone, sodium chloride and proper amount of water, and its key feature is to adjust the pH value to the alkaline range of 8.4-9.2. This alkaline environment can effectively inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and other miscellaneous bacteria, and at the same time is very conducive to the growth and reproduction of Vibrio, thus playing a role in selective enrichment. In the inspection, samples are usually inoculated into this culture medium, cultured at 35-37℃ for 6-8 hours, and after the culture solution becomes turbid, the surface bacterial membrane is taken and transferred to a selective plate for separation. This culture medium is the first step of Vibrio isolation and identification, with the advantages of high sensitivity and simple preparation, and it is an important tool for water sanitation inspection and clinical diagnosis.
