Pyruvate Dehydrogenase (PDH, EC 1.2.4.1) is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. It is the rate-limiting enzyme of the Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex (PDHC) that catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate. It catalyzes the decarboxylation of pyruvate to form hydroxyethyl-TPP, linking glycolysis and the tricarboxylic acid cycle. PDH catalyzes the dehydrogenation of pyruvate while reducing 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol (2,6-DCPIP), which leads to a decrease in light absorption at 605 nm.
