△GEF1 is an engineered strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae with a single-gene deletion, specifically knocking out the key gene GEF1. The GEF1 gene in yeast (systematic name: YJR040W) encodes a voltage-gated chloride channel (Gef1p). Although it does not d bind copper ions, it is a key regulator maintaining intracellular copper homeostasis and directly affects the activity of copper enzymes. Deletion of the GEF1 gene results in the fog phenotypes in yeast cells: 1. Growth defects: Slow growth on non-fermentable carbon sources requiring respiration, which is the origin of the gene naGlycerol Ethanol, Ferric requiring". 2. Metal absorption impairment: Although components of the iron uptake system are still present, cells exhibit iron deficiency symptoms because Fet3p cannot activated by copper ions. Iron supplementation can partially rescue this growth defect.
