Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxylase (PEPC) Assay Kit
Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxylase (PEPC) Assay Kit
Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC, EC 4.1.1.31) is widely present in plants and microorganisms, but absent in animals and filamentous molds. It is an enzyme that catalyzes the irreversible reaction of phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) with carbon dioxide (CO₂) to form oxaloacetic acid (OAA). Meanwhile, it is a key enzyme for CO₂ fixation in C4 plants and CAM plants, and plays an important regulatory role in the operation of the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA cycle). PEPC catalyzes phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) and CO₂ to generate oxaloacetic acid (OAA) and hydrogen phosphate (HPO₄2⁻). Malate dehydrogenase further catalyzes oxaloacetic acid (OAA) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (reduced form, NADH) to form malic acid and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (oxidized form, NAD⁺). The activity of PEPC is calculated by measuring the decrease rate of NADH at 340 nm.
