T1N0 broth
T1N0 broth is a basic non-selective liquid culture medium, which is mainly used for resuscitation, enrichment and salt-free tolerance test of Vibrio cholerae. Its core component is 1% tryptone (T1), which provides rich nitrogen source and nutrition. The "N0" in the name represents no sodium chloride (NaCl), which is its key distinguishing feature. Although Vibrio cholerae is halophilic, most strains can grow in a salt-free environment. By inoculating suspicious strains into T1N0 broth and comparing them with saline broth, and observing their growth (such as liquid turbidity), it can be used to distinguish Vibrio cholerae (usually growing in T1N0) from most Vibrio parahaemolyticus (not growing in T1N0) which needs high salinity. This culture medium is a simple and important tool for preliminary identification of Vibrio.
