Arginine glucose slant agar
Arginine-glucose slant agar is a biochemical identification medium for distinguishing non-fermentative bacteria, especially Pseudomonas. Its core principle is arginine double hydrolysis test. The medium contains arginine, a small amount of glucose and phenol red indicator. As a primary energy source, glucose is used to produce acid, which makes the inclined plane turn yellow in the early stage; The key reaction is that some bacteria can produce alkaline substances through arginine double hydrolysis, which makes the culture medium return to red in the later stage (usually after 24-48 hours). According to the results, it can be divided into three types: only fermenting glucose (turning yellow in the later stage), only double hydrolyzing arginine (turning red in the later stage), or neither (color unchanged). Using this culture medium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa (arginine positive) and Pseudomonas fluorescens (arginine negative) can be effectively identified, and it is an important tool for microbial classification and identification.
