MCPC medium

MCPC culture medium, namely improved cefoperazone-polymyxin B- cyclohexylimide culture medium, is a highly selective solid culture medium, which is specially used for the separation and identification of Vibrio vulnificus. Its selectivity mainly depends on a variety of antibiotics: polymyxin B and cefoperazone inhibit most gram-negative and positive bacteria, while cycloheximide (cycloheximide) inhibits fungal growth. Cytochrome C and sodium pyruvate in the culture medium can promote the recovery of damaged Vibrio vulnificus. On this medium, Vibrio vulnificus has a unique purple colony because of its unique lactose fermentation ability. This combination of high selectivity and direct identification makes mCPC culture medium the first choice for rapid detection of highly pathogenic Vibrio vulnificus from seafood and clinical samples
