Cellulose-polymyxin E(CC) agar
Cellulose-polymyxin E(CC) agar is a highly selective separation medium, which is specially used for the identification and separation of pathogenic Aeromonas hydrophila. Its selectivity mainly depends on the antibiotic polymyxin E, which can effectively inhibit the growth of many gram-negative bacteria, and Aeromonas hydrophila has natural resistance to it. The identification core of this medium is cellobiose as the only carbon source and contains phenol red indicator. Most Aeromonas can ferment cellobiose to produce acid, which makes the culture medium around the colony yellow. However, other strains that do not ferment cellobiose have no such change. Therefore, the formation of yellow colonies on CC agar is an important feature of preliminary identification of Aeromonas hydrophila. The culture medium is widely used in aquaculture disease diagnosis, food hygiene and environmental monitoring.
