β-glucosidase (β-GC) Assay Kit

β-GC (EC 3.2.1.21) is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms and cultured cells, catalyzing the hydrolysis of β-glycosidic bonds, and has many physiological effects: in the glycation of cellulose, β-GC is responsible for the further hydrolysis of cellulose disaccharides and cellulose oligosaccharides to produce glucose; β-GC hydrolyzes terpene aroma precursors to turn the glycoside bonded state into the free state. Thus producing fragrance; β-GC can hydrolyze the wild melanosides in plants and release HCN, thereby preventing insects from feeding.

β-GC decomposes p-nitrobenzene-β-D-glucopyranoside to produce p-nitrophenol, which has a maximum absorption peak at 400 nm, and the activity of β-GC is calculated by measuring the absorbance value increase rate.
