α-Galactosidase (α-GAL) Assay Kit

α-GAL (EC 3.2.1.22) is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms and cultured cells, and can catalyze the hydrolysis of α galactoside bonds, mainly involved in the degradation of galactosides such as raffinose, stachyose, honey disaccharide and galactomannan. α-GAL is essential for the germination of plant seeds, and in the early stage of seed germination, the catalytic D-galactose produced by it is rapidly converted and consumed through the glycolytic pathway, providing the initial energy source for seed germination, and mainly participating in the hydrolysis of polysaccharides stored in the cell wall in the later stage.

α-GAL decomposes p-nitrobenzene-α-D-galactoside to produce p-nitrophenol, which has a maximum absorption peak at 400 nm, and the activity of α-GAL is calculated by measuring the high rate of absorbance.
