UVM medium

UVM medium, which is the basis of Listeria enrichment broth, is the primary selective enrichment medium for detecting Listeria, especially in the pretreatment of food and environmental samples. Its ingredients, such as tryptone and soybean peptone, provide basic nutrition, while selective additives (such as nalidixic acid and acridine yellow hydrochloride) can effectively inhibit the growth of miscellaneous bacteria and create an advantageous proliferation environment for Listeria. Samples are usually pre-enriched in UVM culture medium at 30°C for 18-24 hours, in order to revive listeria cells that may be damaged and improve the detection rate. This step is the standard prerequisite for subsequent secondary enrichment (such as FB2 medium) and separation culture, which ensures the sensitivity and reliability of the whole detection process.
