MFB medium
MFB medium, namely improved Fraser broth, is the key selective secondary enrichment medium for detecting Listeria. In the detection process, it usually takes samples after primary enrichment. Its basic components provide necessary nutrition, while key selective additives (such as lithium chloride, nalidixic acid and acridine yellow hydrochloride) can strongly inhibit non-target miscellaneous bacteria and allow Listeria to continue to proliferate. When Listeria grows in MFB, it will hydrolyze escin and react with ammonium ferric citrate, resulting in brown-black culture medium, which is a positive indication. The culture medium has high selectivity, can significantly increase the concentration of Listeria, and lays a foundation for the subsequent formation of characteristic colonies on the separation plate. It is the designated reagent in ISO and other standard methods.
