C1 (EC3.2.1.91) is found in bacteria, fungi and animals and is one of the components of the cellulase family, and C1 catalyzes the release of cellulose and glucose from the terminal non-reducing end of the polysaccharide chain.

The content of reducing sugars produced by C1-catalyzed microcrystalline cellulose degradation was determined by 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid method.
